Job Description: Digital Engineering Electromechanical Specialist (R&D) – Medical Device

Location: Leeds, UK

Contract Type: 1 – 2 years FTC + extension

We are seeking a motivated Electromechanical Specialist to contribute to pioneering advancements in orthopaedics and digital surgery, utilising cutting-edge technology in robotics and electromechanical engineering.

 

Position Overview:

As a Digital Engineering Electromechanical Specialist, you will play a pivotal role in managing a portfolio of medical devices, supporting New Product Development (NPD) and Lifecycle Management projects within the global MedTest group. Your expertise in electromechanical engineering and robotics will be crucial in conducting testing processes, providing technical computational modeling, and contributing to evaluation support.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with teams to conduct, validate, and report on computational and physical testing studies.
  • Develop simulation models for complex electromechanical devices, including robotics and control systems.
  • Perform multi-domain simulations to predict device performance and analyse system dynamics.
  • Conduct reliability and robustness analysis, identifying design problems and proposing improvements.
  • Analyse test data to validate computational results using various tools like strain gauge, DIC, and accelerometery.
  • Undertake coding tasks for system analysis, simulation, and model development.
  • Document processes and results in technical reports and publications.
  • Modify or create CAD models to support simulation requirements.
  • Communicate findings and proposed resolutions to diverse audiences professionally.
  • Co-author and review reports adhering to industry, regulatory, and company standards.

 

Skills/Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Strong analytical skills, particularly in engineering, statistics, Structural Dynamics, and Vibration.
  • Experience with electromechanical devices, robotics, and control systems.
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and communicate efficiently.
  • Proficient in technical communication and collaboration within teams.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis tools like Six Sigma, DOE, and CM&S verification.
  • Familiarity with industry standards relevant to robotics and control systems.
  • Understanding of design control processes and product development life cycles.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite; experience with embedded sensors, communication protocols, and simulation software like ANSYS.
  • Strong software development background with languages such as C/C++ or Python.
  • Proficiency in CAD tools, preferably Siemens NX.
